For nearly seventy years, crossing the town line into Breakwoods, Georgia, was a death sentence. People learned to avoid the town at all costs, but the terrible secrets of the town were not forgotten, whispered by the old men in the surrounding communities when the skinned bodies of missing children washed up on the riverbank. Some tried to get the police to investigate, even the F.B.I., but the investigations inevitably died as quickly as the officers that dared enter Breakwoods. When it came to what went on in the deadly town, the wise knew better than to ask.
